Small habits, big difference
Diabetes is best managed not by one big change but by steady, everyday habits. Here are five that consistently help.
1. Eat at regular times
Regular meals help keep blood sugar steady. Try not to skip meals, and balance each plate with vegetables, protein and a moderate amount of carbohydrate.
2. Stay active every day
A 30-minute walk most days improves how the body uses insulin. Activity does not need to be intense to help.
3. Take medication as prescribed
Take your medicines at the same times each day. If you have side effects or trouble affording them, tell your doctor rather than stopping on your own.
4. Monitor and review
Check your blood sugar as advised and keep a simple record. Bring it to your follow-up so treatment can be adjusted.
5. Do not ignore the warning signs
Persistent thirst, blurred vision, slow-healing wounds or tingling feet should be reviewed promptly. Booking a check-up early prevents complications later.
